Harry Mwailengo

Co-Founder & Executive Director

Harry Mwailengo is leading Ujuzi Wetu’ strategy, change and growth. He is the former Project Director at Sote Hub, the first rural Incubation Hub in Kenya that has impacted over 50,000 students and young innovators.

Mwailengo has several years of experience in national and international not-for-profit organizations and private enterprises. He possesses extensive skills, knowledge, experience in community development projects and strategic project management. Mwailengo has been active in the field of ICT training, social enterprise and education development for several years, focusing on youth development and community projects.

He is a professional member of the Kenya National Association of Social Workers (KNASW) and Information Technology Association of Kenya (ITAK). With a passion to work with the local communities, he has been an advocate of their rights by initiating and supporting various community projects where his efforts have been recognized by the Obama Foundation Fellowship, Ashoka ChangeMakers, African ChangeMakers Fellowship, Ubuntu Global Leaders Network, among other notable organizations. He holds Bachelor Degree in Development Studies and currently pursuing Master’s Degree in Development Studies.

Chrispin Mwawana

Executive Assistant Director

Chrispin M. Mwawana is a long serving secondary school teacher and educational administrator. He holds a Master of Education in Educational Communication and Technology from Moi University- Eldoret. He has been a keen teacher in ICT integration in teaching and learning.

As a long serving teacher and Principal, he is well versed with imparting knowledge and nurturing skills and attitudes amongst the youths in tandem with the globally human resource demands in a market driven by knowledge, fuelled by information and powered by technology.

Herman Mwalukuku

Administrative Director

He attained Degree in Education (Chemistry and Mathematics) from Kenya Methodist University, Main Campus, Meru, Kenya. He is currently the Deputy Principal, Sagalla International Talent Academy. Here, He coordinates implementation of curriculum by drawing and supervising educational programmes at school. He is also the secretary to all teachers’ meetings and I am in charge of discipline.

He is one of the point man of “Global Angels”, an organization that seeks to help vulnerable people amongst them those living in rural Kenya. Through this organization, we are able to touch lives of students in over 20 schools by giving them pens and other writing materials. We have also managed to donate food items to many needy persons.

He has been the Principal Deputy at SoteICT Center, where he coordinates activities of at least 30 Training Firms in the Taita Taveta County. Knowledge on start-ups/innovations and ICT integration in teaching was the center of our activities.

Singing is his hobby and currently the Music director for Voi Sub County Choir and ACK St Peter’s Cathedral, Voi.

Geoffrey Mwashumbe

CO-Founder, IT & Finance Director 

He is a self taught Fullstack Developer with a vast array of knowledge in many different Frontend & Backend languages, responsive frameworks, databases & best code practices. He is also passionate about STEM and teaches kids and high school students how to code.

His  objective is simply to be the best Fullstack developer that he can be & to contribute to the technology industry all that he knows & can do.

He has also worked as a Finance Officer at Sote Hub where his main job was financial reporting and budgeting.

Stellah Kaniaru

Administrative Manager and STEM leader

Stella Kaniaru is a STEM champion who believes that coding is a basic skill each and everyone should have. A graduate of Taita Taveta University, she has been involved in multiple projects, including school outreaches and technical workshops where she played a key role as a facilitator.

As a tech advocate, Stella is committed to training the youth on how they can use technology to develop solutions to problems in their community.

Ezra Abuga

Program Administrator

He is a seasoned History and Religious Studies Teacher with experience in teaching high school students. Graduate degree holder in Bachelor of Education Arts from the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton and also a Diploma in Education Admistration from Kenya Educational Management Institute, with knowledge of ancient history civilization through more modern eras, strong evaluation and grading skills and understanding of curriculum development. Warm and caring teacher who wants all children to be successful learners and works to create a classroom atmosphere that is stimulating, encouraging, and adaptive to the varied needs of students.
Built a reputation of a compassionate, hardworking, and an excellent role model within an incredibly short span of time. Acts as a facilitator for incorporating and encouraging intellectual and social development in students.
His love for technology in the classroom has enabled him mentor young entrepreneurs in innovative ways to solve; poverty, unemployment and human wildlife conflict above all trying to bridge the digital divide in the rural communities. In 2018, Ezra was prominently featured for producing the young girl’s innovators who won the Start up Africa National competition and traveled to Delaware, USA for the Diamond Challenge global finale.

Janet Mwachia

Program Administrator

Janet’s passion is tackling the life challenges affecting the youth by harnessing the power of community development skills to provide lasting solutions. She is a Life skills coach and a Peer Educator. Her background is in Community Development and Health.

Amos Arumba

Program Administrator

Amos Arumba is a dedicated resourceful and goal driven high school educator with passion in ICT, Innovations and Design Thinking. He has a diverse experience and strong track records in equipping learners from marginalized communities with skills to enable them become successful social entrepreneurs.

With a background in Education and Information Technology from Maseno University, he has substantially fostered student’s interest in tech-innovations by guiding them to identify real world problems and helping them design solutions to it. The most outstanding idea mentored by Amos is “UD Tech System” which has impressed the world at various forms of competitions including the USA’s Diamond Challenge where it won its first global award in 2020.

Amos is also Certified Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert #MIEEXPERT and the 2019 youth delegate representing Kenya at WIPO/ARIPO/OAPI (WAO) International Conference on Innovations and Intellectual Property

Ann Rotich

Program Administrator & STEM leader

A Cyber Security enthusiast with experience in information security, security management in the cloud (Cloud Computing), penetration testing and vulnerability assessment. More to that, she has experience in Ruby programming language and frameworks such as Ruby on Rails.

Out of the professional world, she is very passionate about empowering, mentoring and training young girls especially in high schools to unleash the best versions of themselves in whatever they do. In addition to that, she works in providing career guidance to these young girls in order to pursue STEM related courses in their higher level of study.
She loves community service and involvement in which she is able to deliver and give back.

 

Paul Mburu & STEM leader

Program Administrator

Paul is passionate in developing new, and improving existing, computer-based technologies, systems and solutions. He is a STEM championed for our high school programme. He hold a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science.

Advisory board

Jakub Simek

Co-founder & Chairman Advisory board

Jakub is in charge of strategy and fundraising and is Chairman to the board. Jakub works on social innovation and supporting social entrepreneurs in Slovakia and until 2012 was a Financial Reporting Specialist with experience in international development cooperation with 35 projects concluded in the total amount of 1.6 million euros. Specialties: Startup hubs, business education and practice companies in rural Kenya, international development, ICT integration in development and education, financial reporting and administration of grants, international project development and management. Jakub holds an Msc in Finance and International Relations.

Vasu Dabbaransi

Advisory board

A technical officer of Academic, Curriculum and Learning Media Development Division at National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and a doctoral candidate in Non-formal education at the faculty of education at Chulalongkorn University. Her background as a science educator has shaped her vision to Fabrication Laboratory. She teaches and organizes science activities for youth and teachers at The Sirindhorn Science Home (SSH) where students could learn and hands-on STEM activities. She is learning how to apply STEM activities with Fabrication Laboratory for low-income students, this year she began with coding and embedded board activities. She found that her students enjoy leaning with embedded board and sensors. She plans to challenge the students and herself to create the toys or projects with using embedded board and sensors.
